Signing of MoU on Cooperation between SICCI and MRCCI at Mandalay

On 4th May 2017, a 12-member business delegation of Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SICCI), Chennai, led by its President Mr. Rafeeque Ahmed visited Mandalay in connection with signing of MoU on cooperation with the Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MRCCI) at the MRCCI Hall, Mandalay. The MoU on Cooperation was signed by Mr. Rafeeque Ahmed, President, SICCI and U Aung Than, President, MRCCI. H.E. Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mandalay Region, H.E. Dr, Ye Lwin, Mayor and Minister for Development, Mandalay Region Government and H.E. U Zarni Aung, Minister for Electrical Power, Energy and Construction, Mandalay Region Government were present in the MoU signing ceremony. The total number of participants was more than 225 which included office bearers of MRCCI, members of various business associations of Mandalay and authorities from the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, representatives of Indian companies the members of media and various other businessmen. The Hon’ble Chief Minister as well as the Mayor had a brief interaction with the Indian delegation prior to the event. After the signing of MoU, one-to-one business meetings had been arranged. The Hon’ble Chief Minister, the Mayor and the Minister for Electrical Power, Energy and Construction, Consul General and MRCCI President visited each business match making table (sector wise) and the Chief Minister had interaction with the Myanmar as well as Indian side businessmen.

2. India and Myanmar are two friendly countries with deep cultural and historical connections. The two countries enjoy a strong bilateral trade exceeding USD 2.0 billion in the financial year 2015-16. SICCI has mounted this delegation with the support of the Indian Embassy in Yangon and the Consulate General of India in Mandalay to promote further cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries. The 12 member Indian business delegation of SICCI was led by Mr. Rafeeque Ahmed, President of SICCI.

3. This is the second MoU signed between an Indian business association and MRCCI, Mandalay after the new government came to power in Myanmar. It calls for cooperation in identifying opportunities for business match making between Mandalay and Chennai companies, exchange of relevant information on their respective companies, promote linkages for effective business, supporting exporters and enterprises for setting up operations in Mandalay and Chennai to help such companies expand their operations in the two countries, jointly organized seminars and training to tap on market potentials, provide linkages to sources of information and market research which are of interest and are useful to enterprises desiring to strengthen their capacities and marketing opportunities.

4. The SICCI business delegation is visiting Myanmar to establish a close and long term trade relations with Myanmar and bring goodwill from the people of India. Some members of the delegation will also be visiting Brokers, Traders & Millers Maha Kahtaintaw Association, and Mandalay on 5th May 2017 to have direct interaction with the businessmen dealing with pulses and other related products.
